Caribbean film festival dominated by Jamaican films

Two Jamaica filmmakers won big at the CaribbeanLens Film Festival in Hollywood, California in June. Jamaican gospel film by Michael Brown and Judith Falloon-Reid, “70 x Seven,” a BarriVision Films production, won Best Inspirational Film and “Hill and Gully” by Jamaican-American filmmaker Patrice Johnson, took home the award for Best Feature Film.

The annual Caribbean Heritage Organization festival was held in celebration of Caribbean-American Heritage Month, was hosted by BarriVision’s Falloon-Reid

The award was the third for the married couple, Brown and Reid. The couple has also won the award for Best Jamaican Feature Film at the 2013 International Jamaica Reggae Film Festival for the film, “Just Another Friday.” Falloon-Reid won the award for Best Female Director for faith in the 2015 Florida Movie in 2015.

Johnson’s “Hill and Gully” has also won several other awards such as Best Feature Film at the Palm Bay Film Festival 2017 and Best International Feature Film at International Jamaica Reggae Film Festival in 2013.
